Review iPhone 12 Pro Max: Terrible configuration, beautiful design, super good camera
Hello everyone, I'm Kim Cương Mobile here, today I would like to unbox the newly launched Apple iPhone 12pro and experience what new features the iPhone 12pro has.
The iPhone 12 Pro represents the biggest leap between iPhone generations in years, both inside and out. On the inside, it has 5G connectivity and the world's first 5nm processor that blows all Android phones away. And on the outside, the iPhone 12 Pro is sturdier with a 6.1-inch Ceramic Shield display and sleeker with a flat-edge design.
The iPhone 12 Pro not only offers a telephoto lens for optical zoom, but also offers a new LiDAR scanner that speeds up autofocus and enables Night mode portraits. And this is the big and almost only difference compared current iPhone 12.
Let's see what the iPhone 12 Pro has to offer and what new experiences it brings!
Design
146.7 x 71.5 x 7.4 mm
189 g, IP68
Glass front (Gorilla Glass), glass back (Gorilla Glass), stainless steel frame
Single SIM (Nano-SIM and/or eSIM)
In 2020, Apple did a small revolution with the iPhone when bringing the square design back. Apple has moved from a rounded design over the years to a flat edge on the iPhone 12 Pro. These stainless steel surfaces feel more solid in the hand than the iPhone 11 Pro.
The edge of the iPhone 12 Pro is also a bit sharper than the regular iPhone 12 and this is also the reason why videos of apple peeling with the iPhone 12 Pro edge appear rampant on the Internet.
Another plus point of owning an iPhone 12 Pro is that the 6.1-inch screen is larger than the 5.8-inch iPhone 11 Pro. Apple has also cut down on the thickness of the bezels around the display for a more attractive, beautiful display that's easier to use with one hand.
If you are worried about damage, the front of the iPhone 12 Pro with Ceramic Shield glass will give you more peace of mind. Apple's new Ceramic Shield is rated to have four times better impact resistance than the glass on the iPhone 11 Pro. Apple has solved this problem by growing ceramic nanocrystals in the coating glass. In addition, Apple also claims that the back glass is 2 times harder than the iPhone 11 Pro.
The iPhone 12 Pro also has an IP68 water resistance of 6 meters, which is significantly deeper than the 2 meters on the iPhone 11 Pro. Therefore, if you go scuba diving, you are still comfortable without worrying about your device "drowning".
iPhone 12 Pro comes in four colors: Graphite, Silver, Gold, and Pacific Blue. I'm using the Pacific Blue color version and really like this frosted glass back when it doesn't leave too much sweat and fingerprints.
Screen
Super Retina XDR OLED, HDR10, 800 nits (typ), 1200 nits (peak)
6.1 inches, 90.2 cm2
1170 x 2532 pixels, 19.5:9
Dolby Vision, Wide color gamut,
True-tone
Large notch still exists on the new generation iPhone, and users are also gradually getting used to that defective screen. Still the same old notch, but the iPhone 12 Pro still feels better when it has a larger screen and thinner bezels compared to last year's iPhone 11 Pro.
This monitor owns a resolution of 2532x1170 and 460 dpi. Color reproduction is also good at 115.6% of the sRGB color gamut and 81.9% of the DCI-P3 color space. From there for a good display ability, especially when watching high-quality HDR content.
In terms of brightness, with 742 nits for outdoor use is more than enough for daily needs. Last weekend, I went hunting for some photos of the streets of Hanoi in the early winter and had absolutely no problems with this brightness.
60Hz refresh rate can disappoint many people when most of today's high-end smartphone models are equipped with 120Hz or at least 90Hz screens. However, with a stable and smooth operating system like iOS, 60Hz seems to be enough.
Camera
12 MP, f/1.6, 26mm (wide), 1.4µm, dual pixel PDAF, OIS
12 MP, f/2.0, 52mm (telephoto), 1/3.4", 1.0µm, PDAF, OIS, 2x optical zoom
12 MP, f/2.4, 120˚, 13mm (ultrawide), 1/3.6"
TOF 3D LiDAR scanner (depth)
Dual-LED dual-tone flash, HDR
The iPhone's shooting ability has always fascinated people. Some of my friends are even crazy about the photos taken from the iPhone and always consider the iPhone camera to be sincere.
iPhone 12 Pro also does well and improves a few weaknesses of the previous generation. Although it still retains the same 12MP resolution on the wide, ultra-wide and telephoto lenses, Apple still brings a lot of upgrades here. Starting with a faster f/1.6 aperture for the main camera, which improves performance in low light by 27%.
Other highlights include Night Mode for the Ultra Wide and TrueDepth (front) cameras, Deep Fusion on each camera for better detail, and Smart HDR 3 for best results in flash conditions. difficult.
The zoom ability also gives good detail, the image is not blurred or grainy. In bright enough conditions, the image is still good, but if it is darker, it will appear a bit broken.
When shooting backlit, the iPhone 12 Pro still offers a wide dynamic range. However, details are only decent and still lose detail in areas with lots of sunlight.
Close-up detail is still excellent. The small details on the trunk are still reproduced very quickly, while the background removal is quite smooth.
Dark photography on iPhone 12 Pro is much improved. The new f/1.6 aperture gives the main camera a 27% improvement in low-light performance. Colors and details are also quite well reproduced.
Another benefit is that the iPhone 12 Pro's larger aperture offers better low-light video recording.
Taking selfies on iPhone always retains good details in both face and hair. However, the photo is still slightly yellowed compared to the real thing, so if you want to post a virtual live photo, be sure to edit it!
Portrait photography is where the telephoto camera shows its power. The background is smooth and quite natural, while the subject retains good details and colors.
Capture fonts with the telephoto camera Capture fonts with the main camera iPhone 12 Pro is the world's first phone that can record footage in HDR with Dolby Vision support. That means the phone can achieve up to 700 million colors when shooting video. And frame rates up to 60 fps at 4K. Plus, you can view and edit Dolby Vision HDR videos you shoot right on your iPhone 12 Pro.
Performance
iOS 14.1, upgradable to iOS 14.2
Apple A14 Bionic (5 nm)
Hexa-core (2x3.1 GHz Firestorm + 4x1.8 GHz Icestorm)
128GB 6GB RAM, 256GB 6GB RAM, 512GB 6GB RAM
As the world's first 5nm chip on a handheld device, Apple claims that the iPhone 12 Pro has the fastest, most powerful chip in the smartphone world. All benchmarks show that the score gap compared to Android rivals is increasing day by day.
On Geekbench 5, which measures overall performance, the iPhone 12 Pro scored 1,595 points in the single-core test and 3,880 points in the multi-core test. This number far exceeds Android rivals with the Snapdragon 865 Plus average of 985 single-core and 3294 multi-core points.
iPhone 12 Pro also provides fast performance when playing heavy games with the highest configuration. In PUBG Mobile or League of Legends, iPhone 12 Pro performed very well. Overall, performance is something that goes without saying too much on iPhones, especially the latest iPhones.
The biggest downside when using a strong configuration for a long time, iPhone 12 Pro will be very hot on the back. After about 1 hour of playing PUBG Mobile continuously, the machine was so hot that it made me uncomfortable and immediately had to put it in front of the fan to reduce the temperature.
Battery life
Li-Ion 2815 mAh, non-removable (10.78 Wh)
Fast charging 20W, 50% in 30 min (advertised)
Qi magnetic fast wireless charging 15W
The battery is probably the point that most users are disappointed with the iPhone 12 Pro. The device owns a 2,815 mAh battery, even smaller than the 3,046 mAh of the iPhone 11 Pro. With basic daily needs and not playing games, the device still meets a day's use before charging in the evening.
Use at medium brightness and turn on Wi-Fi, iPhone 12 Pro gives me about 5-6 hours of use before having to plug in the charger. When switching to 4G LTE, the device will run out of battery a bit faster and clearly show its weakness.
In Vietnam, iPhone 12 Pro has not been used 5G yet, so I can't check the actual duration when 5G is on. According to some international news sites, 5G will consume 1 more hour of use when compared to using Wi-Fi.
This year, Apple does not equip a charger for the iPhone 12 series, so you will have to buy an external charger if you want to experience a fast charging speed. With a 20W charger, iPhone 12 Pro will take about 25 minutes to reach 50% of battery life.
Identify
iPhone 12 Pro is an important step forward compared to iPhone 11 Pro, after I experienced it, it was quite good
